Buccaneers' gamble comes up short

HENDERSONVILLE Cane Ridge stopped a two-point conversion attempt with no time remaining in regulation to hand Beech a 17-16 loss at Shackle Island Stadium.

Ty Dean caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Nelson Smith as time expired, but Spencer Rankin was stopped short of the goal line on the conversation attempt.

Cane Ridge (5-0 overall, 2-0 in Region 6-5A) erased a 10-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Buccaneers (3-2, 2-1).


Hendersonville 28, Hillsboro 14

An opportunistic Hendersonville (3-2, 1-2 in District 6-5A) defense claimed seven Hillsboro (2-3, 1-1) turnovers in a 28-14 win at Memorial Stadium.

Weston Schwerdt had a 250yard interception return for a touchdown to push the lead to 21-0 late in the third quarter.

Hillsboro’s Antwuan Goodner threw for 360 yards and two touchdowns.

Westmoreland 30, East Robertson 12

Hunter Crowson finished with 224 rushing yards and three touchdowns as Westmoreland (2-3 overall, 2-1 in Region 4-2A) jumped out to an early first half lead and cruised to a 30-13 win on homecoming night.

Quarterback Blake Carter added a 56-yard touchdown pass to Corey Gardner in the first half.


Other scores

Gallatin (4-1 overall, 2-0 Region 6-5A) scored 50 points for the third consecutive week in a rout of Glencliff. Station Camp (3-2, 1-1 6-5A) shut out Hunters Lane and will host Gallatin next week.
