Dickson County opens up Region 7-5A play tonight, as the Cougars travel to Franklin to face a Centennial team looking to it’s own splash in the region this year as well.

Dickson County’s Trey Wiedman tries to avoid the tackle of Creek Wood’s Sam Askins.
Centennial, ranked eighth in 5A in The Tennessean’s latest AP poll, is last year’s defending region champions after going unbeaten in region play at 7-0, reaching the Class 5A semifinals in the state playoffs as well.
“We’re preparing for a very physical game,” said Dickson County coach Randy Murphree.
“They rely heavily on a run-heavy offense out of the spread, very similar to Columbia. (They have) a mobile quarterback and a few threats that are going to be down the field with big play potential. Mainly, we’re focusing on up front and the run defense.”
Here’s a couple of notes regarding tonight’s game.
Coming in hot: Both Dickson County and Centennial are riding a wave of momentum coming into tonight’s clash. Jacob Murphree threw for six touchdowns en route to the Cougars’ 55-40 win against Columbia last week. Despite last week’s 31-21 loss to top-ranked Independence, Centennial hung tough with the Eagles and will be thinking they can hang with anybody for the rest of the season.
Play makers aplenty: Both teams will have playmakers aplenty on the field. Centennial will feature electric wideouts Devious Christmon and Tavion Fleming, who will likely both see plently of Dickson County’s Caleb Rozar. Dickson County has seen the emergence of Trey Wiedman, who hauled in 163 receiving yards and three touchdowns last week, and Trey Grimes, who has scored two touchdowns in two games. Look for Demontez Coleman to continue his tear as well, as he scored three touchdowns last week for the Cougars.
Result could determine how region shakes up: A win for Dickson County could shake up the entire region makeup, as Centennial is one of the favorites to repeat as region champions. Dickson County would like to disprove that theory, and let the region know they’re in the conversation as well.
