Dickson County players celebrate Sunday’s Class AAA Sectional win over Hendersonville.
DICKSON — Dickson County’s softball team will make its fourth consecutive trip to the Class AAA State Tournament after Sunday’s 9-4 victory over Hendersonville in the sectional.
“We’ve got good players, and those players play well when we need to,” said Dickson County coach Shane Buchanan.
“We’ve got to work on early innings though. We made some mistakes and it could’ve gotten us into trouble if we didn’t watch out.”
Ashley Scott had the hot bat for Dickson County Sunday, racking up four RBIs in two innings to give the hosts an early lead. Scott’s first two came in the bottom of the third off a two-run RBI double to left field that banged off the fence, which was part of a five-run effort that inning that was also highlighted by Brooklin Lee’s RBI triple. Kelcie Annis and Keely Buchanan also had RBIs that inning.
Scott recorded her second two-run hit the next inning on a ground ball to make it 8-1.
The Lady Commandos pulled to within 8-4 on Ace Hanson’s RBI single and a two-run RBI double from Carley Carlisle, but that’s as close as the visitors got.
“That’s the way we’ve been all year long,” said Hendersonville coach Jeff Serbin.
“We’ve been fighting and battling. We fought our tails off to win the district championship. That’s what we’ve been doing all year, is giving ourselves a chance. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Lee struck out eight in picking up the win for Dickson County (38-7-1), which will play at 4 p.m. vs. Seymour in Tuesday’s state quarterfinals in Murfreesboro at Starplex.
“Every team that’ll be in Murfeesboro next week will be great. It’s the team that plays the best. That’s basically what it’s going to be about,” Buchanan said.
Sectional roundup: Siegel earned a berth in the state tournament with a 7-3 win over Soddy-Daisy in Sunday’s Class AAA Sectional. Greenbrier fell in the Class AA Sectional to Waverly, 7-0.
Teams that advanced with sectional wins on Saturday included Clarksville and Stewarts Creek (AAA), DeKalb County (AA) and Summertown and Forrest (A). White House-Heritage and Livingston Academy also advanced in AA while Davidson Academy (DII-A), Friendship Christian (DII-A) and Pope John Paul II (DII-AA) also reached the state.
