The Lady Bobcats advanced to face No. 2 seed White House Heritage in the championship game.

The third-seeded Lady Devils suffered losses of 9-1 and 6-0 to Greenbrier during the regular season.

“I thought we could beat them tonight,” White House head coach Cindy Towers said. “There’s been times in the past where you think you can beat them where you really didn’t have a chance. This time, the girls’ mindset was different.”

Lady Devil senior Madisen Adkins led off the game with a single and scored on junior Stephanie Palmer’s squeeze bunt.

Lady Bobcat sophomore Lulu Klecan doubled in a run during the two-run fourth inning, but White House freshman Sydney Frakes hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to tie the game.

However, Greenbrier (30-11) responded immediately as junior Shelby Bennett led off the sixth inning with a blast over the leftfield fence. Sophomore teammate Haley Ralph singled in two runs later in the frame.

Klecan limited White House (23-19) to seven hits. Adkins had three of those hits, and sophomore teammate Copelynne Whitaker produced two hits.

Adkins also went the distance in the pitcher’s circle.

“Madisen Adkins put this team on her back and said, ‘we are going to be successful,” Towers said. “She didn’t come out and say that, but she portrayed that in that white ring (the pitcher’s circle). Everybody knows this game starts inside that white ring. You have to give her credit. She wanted the ball. Her work ethic started in the fall, every Tuesday and Thursday in the (White House High) annex at 6:30 in the morning with me. She was determined to be in the white circle in the spring.”
