WHITE HOUSE The Westmoreland High School softball team has just one district win.

However, the Lady Eagles have put a scare into third-place White House twice.

Westmoreland came up short again on Tuesday evening though, suffering a 3-1 loss at Chuck Davis Field.

White House (20-17 overall, 7-4 in District 9-AA) claimed a 4-2 when the two teams played in Westmoreland on April 8.

“It wasn’t a pretty win, but Kyla (White, the Lady Eagle head coach) has some players who have really improved,” Lady Devil head coach Cindy Towers said. “Give credit where credit is due. They made some plays that were pretty good.”

Seventh-inning singles by junior Kimi Richardson and senior Addie Morris left a pair of runners in scoring position with two outs, but White House senior pitcher Madisen Adkins induced junior Savannah Whiticker to ground out to senior shortstop Savannah Fuston to end the game.

Adkins (13-7) picked up the complete-game win, scattering seven hits while striking out nine hitters.

Both Morris and sophomore Kendell Goodrum had two hits for Westmoreland (6-16, 1-10).

“Our defense was good,” White said. “Our hitting, we were not able to string them together. We moved Addie to leadoff, and it’s been good. We just have to get the ones behind her to move her.”

Goodrum also went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, scattering 10 hits.

Whiticker reached on a first-inning error and scored on junior Lizzie Johnson’s two-out single.

Lady Devil junior Stephanie Palmer singled in sophomore Erica Moore, who drew a walk and stole second base, in the bottom of the frame.

Sophomore Paige Vincent singled in the fourth inning and scored on Adkins’ two-out single, and Fuston hit her sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning.

Eight players had at least one hit for White House, with Adkins and Vincent producing two each.
