WHITE HOUSE Landon Sewell took a no-hitter into the final inning of his last outing.

On Tuesday evening, the White House High senior carried a no-hitter the distance, propelling the Blue Devils to a 4-0 victory over visiting Greenbrier.

“It was about the fifth inning,” Sewell said of when he realized that he had a no-hitter. “It’s hard. You have that on your mind, but you are thinking, ‘we have to get a win right here and get up in the district.’”

The Blue Devils (13-8 overall, 10-2 in District 9-AA) could have won the district title if Sycamore had lost to White House Heritage later on Tuesday evening, but the War Eagles claimed a 3-0 win to leave White House in second place.

“Coach (Seth) Long talked to us and said, ‘we don’t care what’s happening between Heritage and Sycamore. If we don’t get it done here, that doesn’t matter,’” Sewell said.

Sewell (6-0) allowed four baserunners, via three base on balls and the last one on a two-out error in the seventh inning. The Freed-Hardeman University signee struck out 10 batters.

That performance came just one day after classmate Ethan Escue tossed a two-hitter in a 1-0 win at Greenbrier.

“He’s gotten better since opening day,” Long said of Sewell. “He’s gotten better all year long. The biggest thing is his mental approach. If we make an error, he wants the ball back. If he doesn’t get a call, he wants the ball back. He and Ethan have paired up well together. His mental approach is just great.”
