Sam Smith
The track facility at Whites Creek High School will be named in honor of longtime coach Sam Smith.
Smith, 73, spent 36 years coaching several sports in Metro, but is best known for his work with girls track.
Smith, a Tennessee State graduate, also has been director of the Continental T-Belles Girls Track Club, which he took over from TSU Tigerbelles coach Ed Temple in 1980.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Megan Barry is planned for 12:30 p.m.May 6 at the track, which is currently being renovated.
Renovation of the track is expected to be completed in June.
