Riverdale threatened to sweep the girls and boys titles at Saturday’s Macon Bank and Trust Invitational at Macon County High but finished one spot short.

Riverdale placed first among the girls as senior Emma McClellan (19:42) won the girls race. She finished more than 46 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, sophomore teammate Sarah Sneed.
Cookeville’s girls placed second.
Cross country primer: Midstate runners chase Brentwood, Brentwood Academy
Wilson Central’s boys placed first as four Wildcats — senior Nathan Peterson (16:45), senior Joel Barlow (16:53), senior John Elmore (16:56) and junior Baylor Franklin (17:20) — finished among the top six.
Peterson and Barlow were first and second, respectively.
