Prep notebook: All-Star games this weekend

Gallatin’s James Rockwell will be part of the Class AAA All-Star team that will battle the AA stars Saturday at Lebanon High.

The area’s top seniors in baseball will hit the field for all-star games Saturday.

The MidTN Senior All-Star Classic will host the area’s top senior baseball players at Lebanon High School’s Saturday.

At 1 p.m. the Class AA all-stars will battle the AAA stars. The Class A all-stars will take on the Division II stars at 6:30. Between games at 4 p.m. will be the Old Hickory Bats Home Run Derby.

Soccer stars to battle in Hendersonville: The Tennessee High School Soccer Coaches Association (THSSCA) All-Star Game will be played at Drakes Creek Park’s Field of Dreams in Hendersonville at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Nick Coutras Awards set for Friday: Five former Midstate high school football players, along with longtime Midstate coach Ron Aydelott, will be honored at the 2016 Nick Coutras Awards banquet Friday at the Omni Nashville Hotel.

Hillsboro’s Malique Fleming, Ravenwood’s Jordan Moore, Overton’s Kimlee North, Christ Presbyterian Academy’s Cole Smith and White House-Heritage’s Caleb Stephens will each be recognized for exemplifying exceptional individual effort, superior attitude, dedication to team, academic and athletic excellence and commitment to community service.

Ayedelott, who was recently hired as head coach at Mill Creek Middle School, will also be recognized at the event, which named in honor of former Midstate coaching legend Nick Coutras.

Each award recipient will receive a plaque and a $1,000 scholarship, while the Mill Creek football program will receive a $500 donation in honor of Ayedelott.

Titans to host coaching clinic: The Tennessee Titans will host a free coaching clinic for high school football coaches on Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. at Saint Thomas Sports Park.

Around 120 coaches from 20 high schools are to attend the event, which will be hosted by Titans coach Mike Mularkey. In addition to speaking sessions from Mularkey, general manager Jon Robinson and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau, the clinic will also feature breakout sessions for individual positions and on-field demonstrations on the team’s practice fields.
