Ensworth junior Tyra Gittens got off to a good start at the 2016 Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association state meet, winning a pair of titles during Thursday morning’s field event finals.
Gittens, who won the Division II pentathlon on Monday, claimed wins in both the long jump (19-7.75) and high jump (5-11) at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
McGavock’s Mikayla Thompson also captured a pair of first-place finishes on Thursday, winning both the discus (149-0) and shot put (45-5.75) in Class AAA.
Other Midstate winners included Cane Ridge’s Maya-Perry Grimes (AAA triple jump), Page’s Mary Leichner (A-AA pole vault), Middle Tennessee Christian School’s Mackenzie Harris (A-AA high jump), University School of Nashville’s Hannah Malkofsky-Berger (DII pole vault), Brentwood Academy’s Victoria Caldwell (DII discus) and Harpeth Hall’s Jordyn Lesh (DII triple jump).
