GALLATIN Station Camp High’s boys soccer team had already prevailed over Hendersonville twice this season.

On Thursday evening, the Bison made it three victories over their nearby rivals, claiming a 2-1 victory over the visiting Commandos to win the Region 5-AAA Tournament title for the second consecutive season.
That set up a home sectional match for the Bison (21-1) against Franklin on Saturday, while it forced Hendersonville (13-8-2) to travel to Ravenwood for its sectional match.
Station Camp freshman Tyler Jessen converted on a cross from junior Chase Freeman in the 13th minute to open the scoring. Hendersonville senior goalkeeper Seth Good was able to get a glove on the shot, but it spun off his hands and into the net.
“(Freeman) made a perfect run, and I just happened to be in the right place and put it in the net,” Jessen said.

Freeman added an insurance goal with 10:48 left in the match, but Commando senior Reed Coffman made things interesting when he scored on a semi-breakaway with 1:44 remaining.
“The second (Station Camp) goal’s all my fault,” Hendersonville head coach Russ Plummer said. “We’re throwing people forward, and we’ve got less numbers in the back. We knew it was a risk, but a risk we had to take at that point in the game.”
Station Camp senior Mark Ludwig (who had an ankle injury) returned to action after missing Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over visiting Clarksville.

Station Camp claimed a 2-1 win over Hendersonville in the two teams’ regular-season meeting on April 21, and then, the Bison won the District 9-AAA Tournament championship by handing the Commandos a 1-0 loss on May 13.
