Montgomery Bell Academy and East Nashville coasted to lopsided wins Friday at the Nashville Track and Field Championships at McGavock High School.
Montgomery Bell Academy, which has won 15 of the previous 17 city titles, scored victories in seven events. East Nashville’s girls, who finished runner-up in Class AA a season ago, captured wins in eight events during Friday’s running finals,
“This week has been business as usual,” said East Nashville coach Andre Warren, whose Lady Eagles tallied 179 points — 123 more than second-place Cane Ridge. “Everybody had their goals and we pretty much met them all. We just came out here and performed.”
East Nashville claimed wins in the 3,200-meter relay (10:07.51), 100-meter hurdles (Grenetria Shell, 14.46), 800-meter relay (1:43.82), 400-meter relay (49.57), 400-meter dash (Mic-Quana Webster, 60.14), 300-meter hurdles (Grenetria Shell, 44.03), 800-meter run (Kelesh Shell, 2:24.41) and 1,600-meter relay (4:04.05).
“We just come out here and do our best, and we ran really well,” said Grenetria Shell, who also won Monday’s long jump at 18-05.50. “(Finishing second last year) just makes us push ourselves harder to win state.
“We’re looking good right now.”
Antioch and St. Cecilia finished tied for third with 48 points, while Harpeth Hall (43) rounded out the top five.
The Big Red, led by Will Peters’ wins in the 1,600-meter (4:25.27) and 3,200-meter runs (9:42.73), also scored victories in the 110-meter hurdles (Sam Curry, 13.92), 100-meter dash (Ty Chandler, 10.91), high jump (McClain Portis, 6-0), shot put (Will Eskew, 46-04.00) and discus (Ben Frigon, 130-11).
Other top performers included Cane Ridge’s Maya Perry-Grimes, who notched wins in the triple jump (43-03), 100-meter dash (12.74) and 200-meter dash (25.68), along with Maplewood’s Jeremy McDowell, who won the boys 200-meter dash (22.07) after being edged by Chandler in the 100.
Antioch’s boys finished second in the team standings with 73 points, while Father Ryan (55), McGavock (43) and MLK (49) filled out the top five.
