GALLATIN Station Camp High’s baseball team had thoughts of avenging Tuesday evening’s 10-0 loss at Mt. Juliet in the teams’ rematch on Wednesday evening.
Station Camp High senior Brad Deason receives a pickoff throw at first base as Mt. Juliet’s Tyler Brown dives back safely during first-inning action. Deason had two hits in the Bison’s 11-4 loss on Wednesday evening.
However, it simply didn’t materialize as the visiting Golden Bears completed a sweep of the home-and-home series, handing the Bison an 11-4 loss.
Station Camp (12-12 overall, 0-4 in the District 9-AAA South Division) tied the game on junior catcher Dylan Pottorff’s second home run of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the first inning.
Teammates congratulate Station Camp High junior Dylan Pottorff on his first-inning home run during Wednesday evening’s 11-4 loss to Mt. Juliet.
However, the Golden Bears’ bats picked up where they left off one night earlier, racking up 15 hits. Mt. Juliet cashed in with six runs in the fifth inning on seven hits.
“They hit it hard … it didn’t matter where we pitched it,” Station Camp first-year head coach Korey Heppeard said. “They’re a good-hitting ball club, and they got the bat on it and did damage. We made some physical mistakes too.”
The Bison scored all four runs off of Mt. Juliet junior starter Aaron Brown, a Mississippi State University commitment.
“I felt like we hit it pretty well against a stud like (Mt. Juliet) has,” Heppeard said. “To get four runs off of (Brown), I thought that was pretty good.”
Station Camp High senior Logan Cain runs to third base during fifth-inning action. Cain singled and scored in the fifth inning.
Senior first baseman Brad Deason led Station Camp with a pair of hits.
Senior Jeff Swift tossed two innings of scoreless relief for the Bison in the sixth and seventh innings. Junior starting pitcher Thomas Zazzaro (0-3) suffered the loss.
Mt. Juliet improved to 17-7 overall and to 3-1 in 9-AAA South Division play.
