Beech piles on late to blast Gallatin

GALLATIN The visiting Beech High softball team struggled to shake Gallatin through the first four innings of Wednesday afternoon’s contest at Triple Creek Park, but the Lady Buccaneers scored 12 runs over the final three innings of a 14-1 victory over the Lady Wave.

Freshman Carly Sperlich hit her fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth inning. Sperlich finished with three hits, drove in five runs and scored three.

Sperlich (2-1) also picked up the victory in the pitcher’s circle, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts over five innings.

Sophomore Kaylor Chaffin hit her third home run of the season, a two-run blast that came during Beech’s five-run outburst in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Kennedy McCurry provided four hits and four runs batted in as the Lady Bucs (8-3 overall, 5-0 in District 9-AAA) compiled 15 hits.

Gallatin’s lone run came on sophomore Haley Barnes’ solo home run in the first inning.

Junior Savannah Link had two of the Lady Wave’s five hits.

Gallatin fell to 3-11 overall and to 0-6 in district play.
