Every Sumner County athletic program knew which classification it would compete in for the next four years, but their regions were made official on Friday.
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association released the new regions Friday morning, with all 10 TSSAA members affected in some way.
Football’s six classifications are split evenly, while basketball, baseball and softball have three evenly-split classes.
Volleyball and soccer are split evenly by participating schools. Cross country, golf, tennis and track and field will be in two classes split evenly by participating schools.
Division I wrestling classes are based on basketball classifications, with Class A and Class AA combined. Division I bowling remains in one class, as does wrestling and bowling in Division II.
Division II football moves to three classes split by defined enrollments, while all other sports are split into two classes by defined enrollments.
Bowling remains in one classification in both Division I and Division II.
Schools that choose to appeal their placement have until noon Central time on Wednesday to notify the TSSAA.
The board also voted to reevaluate every member school’s enrollment after the fall of 2018. Schools that have a 20 percent decrease or increase from their fall 2016 enrollment that would cause them to move to another class will be moved to the appropriate class for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years.
