MANCHESTER — The Christ Presbyterian Academy boys golf team pulled away during Wednesday’s final round of the Class A-AA State Tournament, capturing the program’s second state title in three seasons.
The Lions finished 11 strokes better than Knoxville Catholic, which was within a stroke after Tuesday’s play.

“We just try to treat it like any other round of golf and have fun,” CPA’s A.Jacks Green said.
CPA’s Luke Zieman shot an even-par 144 to tie for fourth individually, and Green shot a 145 to tie for sixth.

“When I heard we had a nine-shot lead at the turn, there was a little bit of relief,” Zieman said. “But we couldn’t let up.”
It was the program’s third state title, also winning in 2008 and 2014.
“It’s extremely fulfilling,” said Zieman, a Vanderbilt commitment. “All the hard work pays off. The year before, we came up short (runner-up to Christian Academy of Knoxville). “To know our hard work pays off is heartwarming.”
Macon County was 27 strokes back in third place, and Houston County placed sixth.

Goodpasture’s Jay Fox shot a 143 and tied for second behind champion Kyle Cottam, a Clemson commitment for Knoxville Catholic who finished at 6-under 138.
Greenbrier sophomore Jeffrey Hooper (149) finished in a three-way tie for 10th.
Christian Academy of Knoxville repeated as the girls champion, finishing 24 strokes better than South Gibson and 27 in front of third-place CPA.
CAK’s Caroline Cavin, a Western Kentucky commitment, won the girls title with 7-over 151. CPA’s Siarra Stout, a Charlotte commitment and the defending champion, was third at 155.
