COOPERTOWN – The East Robertson Middle School football team came up a little short to Coopertown in last year’s Robertson County Middle School Championship.

Taylor Groves scored three touchdowns in East Robertson's 30-16 win over Westmoreland.

Taylor Groves scored three touchdowns in East Robertson’s 30-16 win over Westmoreland.

That wasn’t the case Tuesday night when the Indians beat Westmoreland 30-16 in the first ever Middle Cumberland Conference Championship for small schools.

East Robertson set the pace for the game on its opening drive when Jalen Bravo took it in from 3 yards out to make it 8-0.

Westmoreland tied the game on its next possession, but then Taylor Groves rattled off back-to-back scores for the Indians to give them a 24-8 lead at the halftime break.

The Eagles would add another score in the third quarter, but Groves put the game out of reach on the Indians’ next possession to seal the 30-16 victory.

“We had four guys left from last year’s team and this was their goal,” East Robertson Coach Chris Bryant said. “We had to win this to cap off the type of season we wanted to have, and it was good to see them celebrate and know that all the hard work was paying off.”
